Barbizon

in Lishui City

In the 19th century, a French artist "captured" a small village called Barbizon in the southern suburbs of Paris, forming a popular "Barbizon Painting School".Two centuries later, Chinese artists also found a paradise in southwestern Zhejiang, where oars and sails, smoke and misty rain were the highlight of Guyan Huaxiang Scenic Spot. Thus, in the late 1980s, a number of local painters from Lishui came here. They went into nature, set up their easels, and devote themselves to painting from life. With the support of the Provincial Association of Art, they formed their own school of "Lishui Barbizon".
After that, the provincial and municipal levels consciously promoted "Lishui Barbizon" to cultivate grass-roots art group. With the same ideal, the oil painting group in Lishui were diligent and persistent in painting from life. After several years of hard work, they continued to think and explore their paintings. Their painting style and theme changed from a single to multiple, and performance techniques varied from reproduction to performance. And they gradually formed their own creative style.
In 2005, with three characteristics of “ecology”, “culture” and “leisure”, the art sketching base, the creation base, the commodity oil painting production base and the ecological leisure resort center in Huaxiang came into being.Since then, it has grown together with "Lishui Barbizon".In the past ten years, the scenic spot has received nearly 2 million visitors per year, from its obscurity at the beginning, and every painter of Lishui has made his own contribution.
At present, Huaxiang is one of the largest sketching and creation bases in China.Nearly 300 colleges and universities have established a sketching education practice base, receiving more than 150,000 students each year.
